Appointees' biographies:

Tyler Currie

Tyler Currie (BA, MBA) is the co-founder of Global Tyger Group, an international business development agency with consultants in 22 countries. He spent 15 years with the NHL Players’ Association, where he led their business and operations in over 50 major events, including NHL games, Winter Olympics, and the World Cup of Hockey. He previously served on the Board of Invest Toronto and currently serves on the Board of the NHL Alumni Association. He lives with his wife and son in Etobicoke.

Nick Eaves (tenant representative)

As Chief Venues and Operations Officer at MLSE I oversee operations, capital projects and our Music and Live Events business. I spent 21 years at Woodbine, including 5 as CEO. I am an active community volunteer with such organizations as Out of the Cold, United Way and, both Tourism Toronto and Big Brothers Big Sisters, where I also serve on their Boards of Directors. MLSE’s Toronto Maple Leafs are a tenant at Lakeshore and, as such, I have extensive knowledge of the facility and its operations.

Jack Lawrence

Jack is a graduate in Civil Engineering/Survey Technology whose career followed a path in information technology. Having served 36 years with municipal government he is familiar with local government processes including strategic planning, operations, and budgets. Jack has served on a number of boards in various positions. Since 1995, he has been a member of the Faustina Hockey League, coaching minor hockey and holding numerous positions on the Executive and Board of Governors, and is currently the Faustina President.

The Civic Appointments Committee recommends that:  

1. City Council appoint the following candidates to the Lakeshore Arena Corporation Board, at pleasure of Council, for a term office ending June 18, 2021, and until successors are appointed:

2. City Council direct that the balance of Confidential Attachment 1 to the report (May 24, 2019) from the City Clerk remain confidential as it relates to personal information about identifiable individuals being considered for appointment to the Lakeshore Arena Corporation Board.

At its meeting on December 4, 5, and 13, 2018, City Council amended the Public Appointments process by authorizing the City Clerk to shortlist, interview and recommend candidates to the Civic Appointments Committee for appointment to the Lakeshore Arena Corporation Board by City Council.

This report recommends the appointment of 2 public members and 1 tenant representative to the Lakeshore Arena Corporation Board for a two-year term of office, at pleasure of Council, ending June 18, 2021, and until successors are appointed.
