City Council Decision
City Council on March 26 and 27, 2018, adopted the following:
1. City Council appoint William Johnston to the position of Chief Building Official and Executive Director for the City of Toronto, with such appointment to be effective April 9, 2018, subject to and following written acceptance by Mr. Johnston of the terms and conditions of a contract of employment offered by the City, on or before April 8, 2018.
2. City Council authorize the Deputy City Manager, Cluster B to negotiate terms and conditions of employment with Mr. Johnston.
3. City Council repeal By-law 1265-2017, being the by-law that appointed Diane Elizabeth Damiano as Chief Building Official and Executive Director for the City of Toronto on an interim basis effective on the date upon which the appointment of William Johnston takes effect.
4. City Council authorize the appropriate City officials to take the necessary action to give effect to City Council's decision, including the introduction in City Council of the necessary bill to appoint William Johnston as Chief Building Official and Executive Director under the Building Code Act, 1992, and to rescind the appointment of Diane Elizabeth Damiano as Chief Building Official and Executive Director for the City of Toronto on an interim basis.
5. City Council authorize the public release of the name and curriculum vitae summary of the Chief Building Official and Executive Director.

Reason for Urgency:
This Motion is urgent as the recruitment process was undertaken and City Council should appoint a permanent Chief Building Official and Executive Director as soon as possible.
March 27, 2018 at 8:31 p.m. - Speaker Nunziata advised that City Council had completed its closed session consideration of Motion MM38.35 headed "Appointment of Chief Building Official and Executive Director, Toronto Building". No motions were placed in the closed session. City Council would now proceed with the public debate on the Item.
