Community Council Decision

The Toronto and East York Community Council requested the Acting Director, Transportation Services, Toronto and East York District, to review the proposal to explore road alterations on Bloor Street West from Spadina Avenue to Bathurst Street, and report back to the Community Council in the first quarter of 2013.

Origin

(September 11, 2012) Letter from Councillor Adam Vaughan, Ward 20, Trinity-Spadina

Summary

The Bloor-Annex Business Improvement Area has requested an exploration of options for improving the streetscape on Bloor Street West, from Bathurst Street to Spadina Avenue.  Their suggestion is to expand the pedestrian realm into a section of one curb lane, with the possibility of another section of the one curb lane being used as a cycling lane. At intersections, the altered lane could be framed by bike corrals to allow for additional bicycle parking on-street.

In support of the request from the Bloor-Annex BIA, I would like to recommend staff explore this idea, and report back on the feasibility and implications of this request, including the number of parking spaces impacted, and which side of the street would best be suited for this proposal.
