Origin
Summary
This year, the City of Toronto will begin construction of an important piece of infrastructure within the Regent Park Revitalization area. A new park is to be completed on the north side of Dundas Street East, between Sackville Street and Sumach Street. This exciting new facility will abut the Regent Park Aquatic Centre, the Regent Park Arts and Cultural Centre, as well as a variety of new rental and condominium buildings.
Located in the geographic centre of Regent Park, it is anticipated that this will be the social, cultural and physical epicentre of the revitalized community.
Through many informal discussions amongst community members, results of community consultation meetings, and a formal request from the Toronto Community Housing Corporation and The Daniels Corporation (development partner), it is becoming quite clear that a consensus has been reached that the new park should be named "Regent Park".
Since the new park has not been formally named, staff are required to report to Community Council to officially name the park.
