City Council Decision
City Council on July 11, 12 and 13, 2012, adopted the following:
1. City Council appoint the candidate identified in Confidential Attachment 1 to the report (July 12, 2012) from the City Manager, to the position of Fire Chief and General Manager of Toronto Fire Services, with such appointment to be effective, subject to, and following written acceptance by the candidate of the terms and conditions of contract of employment offered by the City.
2. City Council authorize the Deputy City Manager, Citizen Focused Services B, to negotiate terms and conditions of employment and a start date mutually agreed on by the City and the candidate as reflected in the contract of employment.
3. City Council authorize and direct the appropriate City officials to take the necessary action to give effect to Council's decision, including the introduction in Council of the necessary bill to appoint the candidate identified in Confidential Attachment 1 to the report (July 12, 2012) from the City Manager, as Fire Chief under the Fire Protection and Prevention Act, 1997, as amended.
4. City Council repeal By-Law No. 299-2003 effective upon the appointment of the candidate identified in Confidential Attachment 1 to the report (July 12, 2012) from the City Manager, as Fire Chief, which by-law appointed Mr. William A. Stewart to the office of Fire Chief and General Manager for the City of Toronto.
5. City Council authorize the public release of the candidate's name identified in Confidential Attachment 1 to the report (July 12, 2012) from the City Manager.
City Council has appointed James W. Sales to the position of Fire Chief and General Manager of Toronto Fire Services.
The balance of Confidential Attachment 1 to the report (July 12, 2012) from the City Manager remains confidential in accordance with the City of Toronto Act, 2006, as it pertains to personal matters about an identifiable individual, including municipal or local board employees.
