City Council Decision

City Council on May 17, 18 and 19, 2011, adopted the following:

 

1.                  City Council endorse, in principle, the recommendations contained in Attachment 1 to the report (May 3, 2011) from the General Manager, Economic Development and Culture" on the "Creative Capital Gains: An Action Plan for Toronto" and direct the General Manager of Economic Development and Culture to report back to the Economic Development Committee in the fall 2011 with an implementation plan, including financial impacts, within the context of the core service review.

Committee Recommendations

The Economic Development Committee recommends that:

 

1.                  City Council endorse, in principle, the recommendations contained in Attachment 1 to the report (May 3, 2011) from the General Manager, Economic Development and Culture" on the "Creative Capital Gains: An Action Plan for Toronto" and direct the General Manager of Economic Development and Culture to report back to the Economic Development Committee in the fall 2011 with an implementation plan, including financial impacts, within the context of the core service review.

Decision Advice and Other Information

The Economic Development Committee requested the General Manager, Economic Development and Culture, to invite Richard Florida, Author and Director of the Martin Prosperity Institute, to speak to the Economic Development Committee on cultural and economic development investments post global financial crisis in OECD cities and the U.K. National Strategy.
 

The following gave a presentation to the Economic Development Committee on the Creative Capital Gains: An Action Plan for Toronto:

Jim Prentice, Co-Chair of the Creative Capital Advisory Council; Vice-Chairman, CIBC;

Robert Foster, Co-Chair of the Creative Capital Advisory Council; President and Chief Executive Officer of Capital Canada;

Richard Florida, Special Advisor to the Creative Capital Advisory Council; Author and Director of the Martin Prosperity Institute, who addressed the Committee by a pre-recorded video; and

Jeff Melanson, Special Advisory to the Mayor, Arts and Culture; Executive Director and Co-CEO, Canada's National Ballet School.

Summary

The purpose of this report is to present the report of the Creative Capital Advisory Council entitled "Creative Capital Gains: An Action Plan for Toronto" to the Economic Development Committee.

 

The following Co-chairs of the Creative Capital Advisory Council will present their report to the Economic Development Committee entitled Creative Capital Gains: An Action Plan for Toronto:

 
Robert Foster, Co-Chair of the Creative Capital Advisory Council; President and Chief Executive Officer of Capital Canada;
Karen Kain, Co-Chair of the Creative Capital Advisory Council; Artistic Director, National Ballet of Canada; and
