City of Toronto Act, 2006 Public Notice

 

Request for Temporary Delegated Authority to the General Manager, Transportation Services, to Approve Temporary Road Closures Up To, and Including 90 Consecutive Days, for the Purpose of Managing Traffic During Preparation for, During, and after the FIFA World Cup 2026

 

Toronto City Council will be considering recommendations to amend City of Toronto Municipal Code Chapter 27, Council Procedures, in order to remove section references to Chapter 937 within §27-18.4(6)(b) to avoid future amendments to Chapter 27 when delegating authority for temporary road closures under Chapter 937.

 

It is proposed that the amendments be adopted at the City Council Meeting to be held on April 22, 23 and 24, 2026, or at a subsequent meeting.

 

The report from the Executive Director, FIFA World Cup 2026 Toronto Secretariat and General Manager, Transportation Services, titled “FWC26 Toronto Mobility Plan – Temporary Adjustments to Traffic and Parking Regulations”, has the following recommendation:

 

6. City Council amend §27-18.4B(6)(b) of City of Toronto Municipal Code Chapter 27, Council Procedures to omit references to Chapter 937, where authority to close roads has been delegated to the General Manager, Transportation Services.

The proposed amendments are subject to the decisions of the Executive Committee and City Council. Consequently, the proposed amendments may be modified. Additional or other amendments to the above-noted By-law, including amendments not contemplated or considered in the proposal by the City Clerk, may occur as a result of the decisions of the Committee and City Council.

 

If this matter is postponed at the Committee meeting or Council meeting or considered at a subsequent Committee meeting, no additional notice will be provided other than the information on the subsequent Committee or Council agenda.
