Point of Privilege by Councillor Josh Matlow

Following the vote to waive referral on Item MM35.11, Councillor Matlow, rising on a Point of Privilege, stated that recorded votes are considered a way to show accountability and there is a screenshot of the vote that is circulated and, repeatedly, his name is covered up by one of the Clerk’s names and the public can’t see how he voted. Councillor Matlow further stated that he would appreciate it if the Clerk could resolve this, so that all the Members’ names can be seen by the public.

Ruling by Speaker Frances Nunziata
Speaker Nunziata accepted the Point of Privilege and asked the Deputy City Clerk to comment.

The Deputy City Clerk advised Members of Council that there was a recent update to the City’s Webex tool that changed the display function so that when somebody is sharing their content, it does show the name of the person who’s sharing the content and it happens to be in the middle of the display. The Deputy City Clerk advised that staff are working on a fix and that the Clerk will be more mindful of this moving forward.
